One of the things that has hindered development of automated video services has been the lack of useful APIs from the leading content aggregators. Using existing distribution services would help start-ups a lot as creating an enticing starting page and building a content delivery solution from scratch requires lot of redundant work. Now Youtube has decided to publish open interfaces for uploading videos and editing the metadata. This is good news and should be celebrated accordingly. Similar moves from other players (Joost, Google Video etc.) would naturally be welcomed enthusiastically.
