This blog is about a concept I call automated video systems. Such a vague label is pretty hard to define so to make it understandable you really have to break it to essentials. Video productions consist of tasks and ways to manage them. An automated video production system would mean a setup where the tasks in the digital workflow have been fully integrated from script to consumption. The full integration is really just the first step and it gets much more interestings as parts of the workflow are changed to logic components that have been assigned rules beforehand.
Automated video could also be called generative video, but I don’t think that the term would do justice to the full of breadth of options available to the video producer. Flash and java experiments labeled as generative art may have changed how we perceive visual art a bit, but video has more effective means for telling a story. What should automated video systems be called? Can you come up with a descriptive name?
