Review: Iconix HD-RH1

Iconix keeps getting positive publicity for their tiny HD cameras. The great thing about such small camera head is that mounted to a light jib it can be moved effortlessly. Moving heavy gear has also always been a hurdle. Although small size is a great attraction there are also some potential pitfalls. Traditionally heavy camera head has helped to the stabilize the picture. Consequently with a lighter head properly adjusted damping is needed on the jib to achieved smooth movements. The marketing for this particular product is also bit misleading, because in addition to the camera itself additional control unit and recording device are required on the shoot. So essentially the capture device has just been hacked to pieces. However being just as excited about these latest developments as the next guy waiting for the next generation of devices is going to be tedious. Future with truly open capture and control interfaces linked to a software capturing and control solution is something to really look forward to.
